Nestled in the the valley of the Bastan is the quaint village of Barèges. This is where you will find our traditional Pyrenean style guest house built in the Napoleonic era. Barèges offers an excellent location for spring, summer, autumn and winter activity holidays for the whole family.
For the warmer months...
Situated on the former Route nationale 618 on the western side of the Col du Tourmalet, cyclists have 7 Tour de France climbs (Soulor, Aubisque, Borderes, Cambasque, Luz Ardiden, Tourmalet & Hautacam) right on our door step.
The GR 10 is a French hiking trail that runs the length of the Pyrenees Mountains and runs roughly parallel to the French–Spanish border, passing just above Barèges. Les Sorbiers offers walkers and trail runners a chance to put their feet up and enjoy a night of luxury before continuing on their rustic adventures.

For winter...
Home to the largest ski domain in the French Pyrenees, the Grand Tourmalet ski station (Barèges-La Mongie) offers
61 pistes, extending over more than 100km, culminating in an altitude of over 2,500 meters, suitable for amateurs or the most experienced skier. There are 33 lifts connecting the Barèges - La Mongie domains. The free ski shuttle stops outside Les Sorbiers every 15-20 minutes in season and its only a 4km distance with direct access to the slopes!

About us...
We are a South African family that moved from Johannesburg to France in 2019, our vision was to be part of nature and enjoy a slower pace of life with all the fun filled out door activities in the Pyrenees mountains. Brendan had dreamed of moving to France since the early 90's when he backpacked through parts of Europe. Once we were married we agreed on a 5 year plan to move to France. An agreement between Brendan and Mary was made ... as long as we had winter trade, Mary would agree to move to France - and so the hunt for the perfect guest house in the ski regions of France began! The 5 year plan turned into 7 years, but we made it! Brendan began learning French in 2012 . In 2013 our son, Daniel, was born and at the age of 3 we enrolled him in the French School in Johannesburg - he has fully immersed himself in the French school here in Barèges and speaks fluent French and English!
We love our sometimes busy, sometimes quiet mountain life - so ,if you are looking for a tranquil or activity filled holiday, summer or winter, in a magnificent setting, join us in the Pyrenees mountains!
